April Events Redefine Classic Vintage at Lakewood
Spring is here, and Lakewood's taking to the high seas!

Every year, the incoming Commodore invites members to join in a formal vacation getaway cruise. This year's destination is the Panama Canal! Selected specifically by the Commodore and First Lady, the destination for the annual Commodore Cruise will explore the rich history accounting the creation of the Panama Canal as one of our nation's most bold and brilliant engineering feats to date.

Lakewood's youth sailors are headed to San Francisco for the National Team Trials to qualify for 2016 international events. The Optimist Advanced Clinic will be held in Corpus Christi. Sailors will train for seamanship techniques and competitive strategies. Youth racers will compete in the Roadrunner Regatta and Texas Junior Laser Championship at the Austin Yacht Club this month. The events will be held on the waters of Lake Travis.

Continuing their theme of self-defense in 2016, the Ladies Association looks forward to a day at the Arms Room. Brandy Liss, part owner of the Arms Room and owner of Damsel in Defense, will speak about equipping women with practical tools to keep them safe. The group will learn the fundamentals of shooting to gain confidence and competency using firearms in personal defense situations.

Celebrating the Grand Banks lifestyle, the local chapter of the Grand Banks Owners Association here at Lakewood will convene for their annual rendezvous. The club anticipates a sizeable turnout of Grand Banks owners from along the Gulf Coast. The variety of makes and models parading through the harbor is a spectacle that club members look forward to every year.

Finally, vintage boat and car fans eagerly look forward to Lakewood's biggest event of the year -- Keels & Wheels. April 23-24 will see the grounds of Lakewood teaming with classic cars and vintage wooden boats to highlight the 21st anniversary of the annual event. Drawing an average of over 15,000 participants and spectators, Keels & Wheels has raised more than $1.5 million in charity funds to care for children and families in crisis at Boys & Girls Harbor.

It’s going to be an unforgettable month of boating and social high life here at Lakewood Yacht Club!
