Do you ever wonder where Lakewood Yacht Club’s Seahorse Youth Sailors end up when they grow out of the program? Do they pick up a new hobby? Do they continue sailing? Well for Melissa Denman, former Seahorse Optimist Sailor, Lakewood’s Youth Sailing Program was just the beginning of her sailing career.  Denman was asked to be one of seven crew, and the only female, representing San Diego Yacht Club in the 103rd Challenge for the Sir Thomas Lipton Cup. Twelve teams from across the country raced for the coveted trophy October 27-29 in San Diego, California. The race was held in round robin format using equalized J/105s provided by owners of local Southern California boats. After a close regatta, Denman and her San Diego team reigned victorious and earned the prestigious Lipton Cup Trophy! Congratulations to our former Opti sailor!
