Ladies Day at the Art Museum

The ladies of Lakewood took a liesurely day trip to the cultural center of Houston for some art history and fine dining. The weekend trip started at the Museum of Fine Arts for an inside look at the portrait exhibit of Franz Winterhalter.

"We learned so much from the exhibit today," comments Jan Smith, President of the Ladies Association. "The artist had not become well-known because most of his works were kept in private collections by royal families."

In fact, Winterhalter captured the elegance and opulence of European aristocacy so poignantly throughout the 19th century, that he became the preferred portraitist of England's Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Born in Germany, the artist gained popularity in Paris, where demand for his portrait services grew in notoriety.

Jan continues that "After the exhibit, we went to Hotel ZaZa for an amazing lunch." One of Houston's premier boutique hotels, ZaZa wows guests with its stunningly innovative dining venue. An evolving array of flavors and seasonal concepts treat diners to a one-of-a-kind experience not soon to be forgotten.

The Ladies Association looks forward to their extended trip to Galveston next month for some fun times on the Strand.
