Lakewood Gears Up for the J/Fest Southwest Regatta
Lakewood Yacht Club announces that it will host the 7th Annual J/Fest Southwest Regatta. Open to all J/boat designs, the race will take place in Galveston Bay from October 28-30 this year. Nearly 100 racers from around the country are expected to compete.

Optimal weather conditions marked by calm winds and moderate climates continue to draw sailors to the Texas coast for competitive racing. Scott Spurlin joined the J/Fest Planning Committee to lay out a workable framework that balances weather and racing conditions. Spurlin notes that, "The October wind conditions in southeast Texas are simply wonderful, especially if one of the early cold fronts blows through."

A high-performance sailboat designed for cruising, day sailing, or  racing, the J/boat sports a variety of classes, many of which will represent at the fall J/Fest. The windward/leeward course typically attracts top competition both locally and from out of state.

Whether spectators enjoy the regatta from shore or board the spectator boat for live, on-the-water action, this year's festivities promise to be fun both on and off the race course. The event will feature live entertainment from the LC Roots band along with a Cajun shrimp boil and fantastic drink specials.

Visitors can check out local attractions such as NASA-Johnson Space Center, the Kemah Boardwalk and Amusement Park, as well as the Light House District. Plenty of fine dining and shopping are in the surrounding areas, and event hotel rates are available to out of town guests, skippers, an
d their crews.
