Marcy's Musings

November is a “getting ready for the holidays” month for Lakewood members.   Our Fall Ball is set for Saturday, November 14, which is always a lovely event, but earlier that day will be our Annual Meeting where Flag Officers present a “state of the club” address for members.   Following is planned an Awards/Appreciation Ceremony for all the hard-working volunteers of the year.   A special award will go to the Boat of the Year for winning Lakewood hosted regattas and then one or more of the members will receive the Commodore Council Trophy for recruiting the most members into club.   All of those winners are surprises and will be announced in December.

The Ladies Association Feliz Navidad, or Christmas Market, is planned for Friday, November 20 where over 40 vendors set up booths in our ballroom for members and guests to Christmas shop.   Lakewood members will have a preview party the night before so they can get a “heads up” on their shopping lists.   The public is invited for this market and are welcome to stay for lunch in the Captain’s Quarters.

On November 21, members are getting ready for the New Year by attending a Committee Chairmen’s Orientation.   2016 committee chairs were selected by our in-coming Commodore Don Mitchell.   Later that day, the Flag Officers will conduct a New Member Orientation for those new to the club over the past several months.   This is always a very interesting PowerPoint presentation followed by a wine/cheese reception in the lounge.  There, they will have an opportunity to meet committee chairs and sign up for a committee of their choice.   That is a great way to get involved with the club, support its membership, and meet lots of interesting folks while helping the club.

Culminating the month of November is always our monumental Thanksgiving Buffet served in our ballroom.   Chef Cristy Jones and her kitchen staff, along with Food/Beverage Director John Redfield and his service staff will make this dining experience another memorable one for all our members and their guests.

Stay safe on the water!
