Marcy's Musings

Coming into the last month of 2015, Lakewood members will be celebrating with a Jazz Brunch on Sunday, December 6. Musician Kito Zapata will begin his jazz melodies at 10:30 AM. His music should make the brunch experience even more memorable than it already is.

Our Novel Dining Book Club has been consecrated into an official Lakewood Yacht Club committee. It meets on the second Thursday night of the month in the Captain’s Quarters. Whatever dish is talked about in the book, that food is incorporated into the evening’s menu thanks to Chef Cristy Jone’s culinary creativity. Book Club Chair Judy Fuller encourages all members to attend these interesting and educational evenings.

Cruisers will be heading to Moody Gardens, Galveston, over the weekend of December 11-13. I understand that Moody Gardens has expanded their array of Christmas activities for families this year. Carvers from China have created sculptures featuring more than 2 million pounds of ice. So, it should be a fun weekend for our boaters.

On Sunday, December 13, the club will host its annual Christmas Party for members. It is scheduled to be held in our beautifully decorated ballroom in the afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. All are encouraged to bring unwrapped gifts for Toys for Tots. The club is planning a bountiful buffet of hors d’oeuvres along with plentiful adult beverages to lift everyone’s spirit.

For years, we have had Breakfast with Santa for the children of the club. This year, we are planning something different! It will be a “Magical Evening with Santa Claus” in the ballroom at 6:00 PM. Santa and his reindeer are coming to LYC to spread holiday cheer. The evening will include cookie decorating and a delicious holiday dinner with Santa Claus.

A Masquerade Ball is planned for New Year’s Eve on Thursday, December 31.  This will be the last evening at the helm for 2015 Commodore Joyce Maxwell. On Friday, January 1, the 2016 Commodore Don Mitchell and wife Marilyn will take over the helm.

Community Relations Director

In 1989, I was Lakewood Yacht Club’s first Marketing Director and have served in the capacity for over 22 years.   Now I am transitioning into the new position of Community Relations Director.   Having lived in the Clear Lake Area for 50 years, I am familiar with the business community and many of its organizations such as the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce where I have served on their board and now the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership and the Bay Area Houston Transportation Partnership where I serve on their boards as well.  I represent Lakewood Yacht Club in the community and help to keep the face of our club in the forefront of peoples’ minds.
