The 164th New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta, the oldest continuously run regatta, took place June 8-10 in Newport, Rhode Island. The regatta features an around-the-island race on Friday and then a traditional regatta around dropped marks the following two days.
Three boats from Lakewood participated including Kenai, a J/44 owned by Chris and Karen Lewis, Leading Edge, a J/109 owned by Tom Sutton, and Hamburg, a J/109 owned by Al Goethe. Kenai won her class in the around-the-island race and Leading Edge came in third. In the traditional regatta, Kenai, Leading Edge, and Hamburg placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Additionally, Kenai joined forces with a J/122 from Annapolis Yacht Club and won the Rolex Cup! Meanwhile, Leading Edge and Hamburg teamed up. The Corinthian Trophy will be awarded at the NYYC Annual Awards in November to the top three yachts from a visiting club. Stay tuned to see if Lakewood wins!
