Lakewood Yacht Club is a private club, here to serve our Members and guests. Each new member of Lakewood is sponsored by two current members. With six different categories of membership, one is sure to be the perfect one for you!
Types of Memberships
This premier membership includes boating and voting privileges, Club programs and clubhouse amenities. Lakewood is a member-owned, private club with general membership meetings usually held twice a year. At the meetings, Resident and Junior members can exercise their voting powers.
This is a social membership which grants all the amenities, programs and activities of the Club except for voting and boating rights. Upon request and the balance between the initiation fees, this membership can be changed to a Resident membership.
Junior Membership (ages 21-34)
This membership is for the up-and-coming executive boater who is between the ages of 21 and 34. It includes boating and voting privileges as well as Club programs, activities and clubhouse amenities. For each year a Junior member is under 35 years, $750 credit is applied to the Resident membership initiation fee when the member upgrades at age 35. The balance can be paid over six months.
Non-Resident memberships are for individuals who reside outside of Harris and Galveston counties and their contiguous counties. This membership includes all boating rights, club programs, activities and clubhouse amenities, but does not have voting privileges.
Corporate Sponsored Membership
Corporations, partnerships or sole proprietorships qualify for this type of membership. It is the only membership that is transferable. This membership allows for one boat slip and includes all club programs, activities and clubhouse amenities. It is structured with one Master Corporate membership and two Associate Corporate memberships. This membership does not have voting privileges.
The Military Membership applies to an active duty U.S. Military person serving for not less than 365 consecutive days. This membership does not have voting privileges, and the term of the membership is three years, renewable on a case-by-case basis. If a boat slip is needed, the monthly dues are increased by $20 per month.
To be considered for membership, two club members in good standing must sponsor a candidate for membership. A candidate’s background and credit may be reviewed as part of the application process. Candidates are then presented to the general membership, membership committee and board of directors for consideration. The first six months of membership are provisional. The LYC board of directors will reconsider your membership for permanent status after your initial six months.
Member Sponsorship Assistance
LYC is aware that some well-qualified prospective members may be new to the area or not know any current members. Not already having sponsors can add time to the application process, but the club does have a membership development program to assist those who need assistance getting to know potential sponsors.
